Title: The Wicked King
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy
Author: Holly Black
Publisher: Little Brown
Publication: January 8th 2019
Cover Rating: 5/5
Reading Format: Owned Hardback

The Wicked King by Holly Black is the continuance of The Cruel Prince. Both of these books have been thoroughly enjoyed by so many and I am definitely among that group. I loved The Cruel Prince wholeheartedly and could not wait for the release of The Wicked King. Now that it is here, and I have read it, I am DYING for the next book.

The book starts off with Jude. She is alone because she betrayed her "father", her twin sister betrayed her and is now married, her other sister ran off to live in the human world and all Jude has for company is the person she both despises and is attracted to, Prince, no, King Cardin.

Jude has Cardin on puppet strings. He may be king but he made a bargain with Jude so she can essentially control him for one year and one day. Cardin never wanted to be king but after the horrific events in the last book, he really had no choice left. So he is left to do Jude's bidding. You'd think that would make him bitter but... it really has the opposite effect on him and this book you get to know so much more about Cardin. But who knows what can really be trusted. Yes, he can tell no lies but he can bend the truth.

While reading this book I kept waiting and waiting for the horrible thing to happen. You know what I'm talking about right? The whole book feels like it's leading up to something and you are just turning page after page with this anticipation resting uncomfortably on your shoulders. Well, the thing happened, but it waited till nearly the end of the book. Anyone want to guess the title of the next book? The Irate Queen. No, hmm, maybe, The Murderous Queen? I guess we will have to wait and see!

The book ends much like it started off. Jude is pretty much alone once again. Cast off from everything she has known for most of her life. I can't wait to see how the second book starts off and how she gets back to the place she calls home.

In the end, a lot of stuff goes down in this book and I still have no idea why I want to see Carden and Jude together especially after what happened. I am just really hoping Carden had some genius master plan to protect Jude or something and they will end up back together. It's a very toxic and abusive relationship so I have NO IDEA why I need this to happen so badly but UGH.

Overall, I gave the book 5/5 stars.
