I loved Everless. It was such a beautiful story with a very intriguing plot. Being able to bleed your lifespan in order to have it turned into coins to be used as currency sounded so insane to me. But the flip side, being rich and having the ability to use these coins as a way to extend your own life. Simply put these coins in your tea, just like sugar, and drink it down and you will have time added to your life. But this easily becomes corrupt and being bled your lifespan is also used as a form of punishment.
But life wasn't always like this. Long ago, an Alchemist and a Sorceress came upon an agreement. In order for the Sorceress to have everlasting life she had to do something. The deal went sour and the Sorceress was scorned. This event led to the Alchemist turning the iron in blood into time and the rest is history. Or so it was told.
This book is told the way a fairytale would be told. The world in the book is pretty average but the way the author tells the story makes everything seem very beautiful. I kept trying to figure out what this book was a retelling of but I came to the conclusion that the book is just concepts of so many stories put into one amazing book. But what do all good fairytales need? A Villian and a Hero. And sometimes, the lines between the two blur. Would you consider yourself to be a Hero if something you invented was used for evil?
Our main character is Jules. She ends up on this journey to avenge her father and her own past but she ends up finding out so much more than she bargained for. The one guy she loved turns out to be a coward. The man she fears turns out to be her saving grace. And the job she thought was just a simple thing turns out to be something that can unravel the very strands of time. If you love anything that has to do with Fairytales or Fantasy then I implore you, please pick up this book. You will not be disappointed.
Overall, I gave the book 5/5 stars.
