About:
Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic meets the Salem Witch trials in this haunting story about three sisters on a quest for revenge—and how love may be the only thing powerful enough to stop them.

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…

Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.

Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.

Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.

Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.

But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

Rating:

I’d say this book is more Practical Magic than it is Hocus Pocus, which was a bit of a letdown because I really love those movies/book.  And it’s really only Practical Magic in that the evil sisters’ spirits take over human bodies, like the evil bad lover does in Practical Magic. There really aren’t any ties to Salem except that people think the sisters are witches…. though the book states many times that they aren’t, and the town kills them for it anyway. The rest of the blurb about the book is true though. Three sister’s come back each year wanting revenge and they get that revenge by possessing 3 girl’s bodies and drowning boys. Of course it’s up to our heroine to try and stop these drownings, especially when the boy she loves life is on the line. There are twists that throw monkey wrenches into defeating the bad guys and having happily ever afters though, and I’m not going to go farther into it because I don’t want to spoil anything. The story was fast paced and kept me interested. The ending was kind of a letdown to me. I wanted certain characters to have happy endings and I’m not sure they really got what I wanted in the end…. It’s complicated. Over all though I enjoyed this read and would recommend it to those looking for a good supernatural romance with a bit of a twist. Younger readers might not be ready for the drinking and drugs that are done at the parties in the book though.
