Title: Pretty Dead Girls
Genre: YA Thriller
Author: Monica Murphy
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publication: January 2nd 2017
Cover Rating: 3/5

Pretty Dead Girls is the story of Penelope and her quest to catch the person who is killing off her friends while also finding a love interest at the most awkward time.

Someone is killing the girls in this elite group called the Larks. The Larks consists of 10 members, 5 seniors and 5 juniors, all female. The girls go around doing community service so they can put their good deeds on their college applications to make them look better. These girls act like queen b's but they really aren't that great. Drug problems, alcohol problems, boyfriend stealers, you name is, one of these girls probably has it. So you can imagine there might be a lot of suspects when they start dropping dead. The tagline for this book is "Beautiful. Perfect. Dead." and I think the author left out the word 'Bitchy.'.

Our main character is Penelope/Penny. She is the leader of the Larks and, in my opinion, the most annoying one. She tries to pretend like she is different from the other 9 Larks but she really isn't. She also amplifies this appearance when she meets Cass, the romantic interest but so much more. Cass tells her she is just like the rest of the girls and she makes it a point to prove she isn't. Sadly, she proves that SHE IS and she is ungodly annoying throughout the entire book. She picks fights with people over the stupidest things and she is SO INSECURE. A little jealousy is normal but this girl needs HELP.

So, someone is slowly killing off Penny's friends/enemies, because in this book your friends are your enemies apparently, but the police aren't coming up with anything so her and Cass set out to try and figure out who the killer is. I think it was kind of pathetic that the cops were so bad that teenagers thought they had to help them.

Cass and Penelope set out to find the killer with a lot of trouble and cops on their tails. I still think it was rather ridiculous that the cops couldn't manage to do this on their own. But remember, nothing bad ever happens in Cape Bonita.

In the end, I was not very impressed with this book. Everything about it was generic or over used. The killer was so pointless and his/her motive was even more pointless. If someone can kill another person over something THIS petty then the least the author could do it make it a little more interesting. The reason WHY the killer did what they did was very reminiscent of the movie franchise Scream. Just like with Stephanie Perkins latest novel. I guess crappy teen horror movie books just aren't my thing.

Overall, I gave the book 2.5/5 stars.
